Give Cat Hair The Brush Off!

We love our cats furry and fluffy and looking healthy, but when your cat sheds, their fur gets everywhere. On your clothes, on the couch, on the rug and drapes, in your food, on your face, it’s enough to make you lose your mind. So what can you do to keep your cat’s shedding under control?

Because cat fur is so light and abundant, it easily wafts up into the air and is free to land on just about anything. Indoor cats tend to shed all year round, so pet owners don’t even get a break with the seasons like outdoor cat owners. We found installing an air purifier helped a great deal to filter airborne cat hair and keep it under control. 

A House Clean Of Cat Hair

With less cat hair flying about, housekeeping becomes less of a chore. But you’re not off the hook yet. You’re going to need a few extra cleaning essentials to control that cat hair:

• Invest in a good quality HEPA filter vacuum cleaner that boasts how good it is at sucking up pet hair.
• Dry sweep floors with a microfiber mop, which will create static to pull the cat hair out of the corners of the room.
• Lint rollers are your best friend, but not just for your clothes, for the furniture and drapes too. You can get different sizes of lint rollers or sticky tape sheets that are perfect for the furniture. Lint brushes also work well and more eco-friendly.

Another great piece of advice is to maintain a grooming schedule for your cat. With regular brushing, your cat will shed less hair. Grooming is the kind of activity that the whole family can get involved in. For your cat, it’s a wonderfully relaxing experience, where they get to bond with their owners. Cats love to be brushed and it presents an opportunity to check for lumps, scratches, and other irregularities.

Grooming Products For Your Cat

Depending on your cat’s fur, you’ll need a few different kinds of brushes and grooming tools to get the full benefit.

• Deshedding Brush or Glove for overall grooming.
• Dematting Brush for knots and tangles.
• A softer brush or comb for belly fur.
• Pin Brush for final brush out.
• Wipes to clean the fur and remove loose hair.

Another tip is to check their diet and make sure your cat is getting enough Omega-3 and Omega-6 to help keep their skin and coat in tip-top condition. Ultimately, you can’t stop your cat from shedding, but with a regular cleaning and grooming schedule, you’ll find it easier to live with your furry friend.
