Life is colourful but without eyes, we cannot see its colour. Eyes are important and sensitive part of body whether a human body or animals body. We, human, see the world and enjoy the colourful flowers and sceneries while animals use it to hunt and prey. Among animals, cats have special powers in their eyes; their bright eyes shine in the night. Besides all these facts, there are many diseases associated with their eyes. Whenever you notice that your cat is rubbing her eyes with her paws, rugs or sofa do not ignore it she might be facing any eye problem.

 A healthy cat has shiny, clear and bright eyes. Whenever cat gets ill from simple fever to some serious disease, her eyes start to discharge. Cat’s eye problems are to be taken seriously because if the eye problem gets serious there are chances that they can suffer blindness.

Symptoms of Cats eye Disease:

If you notice any of the below-listed symptoms in your cat’s eye, it means your cat is suffering from any kind of eye disease:

  • Watering
  • Discharge
  • White or red eyelid linings
  • Stained-tear fur
  • Crusty gunk in the eye
  • Closed eye(s)
  • Visible 3rd eyelid
  • Change or cloudiness in the colour of eye

Some most common eye problems in Cats:

Following are some of the most common cats eye diseases suffered by domestic cats.

Respiratory infections: it causes a continuous discharge from cat’s eye. It includes viruses like feline calicivirus, pneumonitis, respiratory disease, or rhinotracheitis, protozoa and bacteria.

Pink eyes or Conjunctivitis: A light pink irritation around cat’s eye is conjunctivitis. It causes eyes of the cat to look swollen and red with thick eye discharge. This is not so common in cats

Corneal disorders:  in this disease the front of cat’s eye is cover with a dome shape, can become injured, inflamed, or ulcerated. It may cause excessive blinking, cloudiness, too much teary eyes and inflammation.

Watery eyes or epiphora: There is abnormal tearing in cat’s eye in a viral infection. It is a serious disease and can cause blindness in the cat if not treated on time.

Uveitis. An irritation in eye’s internal structures, cancer, immune problems, infections or trauma that can cause blindness.

Treatment of the Cat Eye:

Whenever you notice any symptom or disease in your cat, consult it with the vet. If the problem will be simple, the vet will prescribe some ointment or drops with application instruction. Whereas in case of some serious eye problem he might suggest an operation.

Preventing Cats Eye Problems:

Eye problems in cats are very common. Every second cat from 10th faces eye problem. The safest way to prevent eye problem in cats is to make certain your cat get her all eye vaccinations done and has through regular eye check-ups.  Notice her overall health especially eyes daily and in the case of any problem consult immediately a vet. Eye diseases if not taken seriously can even cause blindness.
