Buying a Small Pet? Adopt!
When it comes to adopting pets people usually think about searching shelters for dogs or maybe cats – but rarely do people think about adopting hamsters, rabbits or turtles!
Why?
Well I think it basically breaks down to a kind of nostalgic feeling toward going to a pet store and holding the little critters, looking at all the different ones and waiting for just the right furry (or scaly) face to look up at you and for that warm wonderful feeling to wrap itself around you and say “this is the one!”
But here’s the thing – there’s tons of wonderful little friends at shelters waiting for adoption too! The humane society for example isn’t just for dogs and cats like everyone thinks – there’s fluffy bunnies, gerbils, hamsters and even turtles! Sometimes they have other animals too like different bird species or snakes and other funky lizards too.
It’s not that these little guys are bad in any way or that there’s something wrong with them, often people get pets when they aren’t really ready for it and unfortunately you can’t exactly just walk back into a pet store and return a pet – they aren’t inanimate objects after all!

The humane society has all kinds of little creatures that come through their facilities. Your local location will update their site as they get new small pets ready to be adopted. If you’re looking to buy one type of small pet in particular you can always contact the humane society and ask if they can look around at other locations and you can always check the other websites as well.
If you have a particular soft spot for ferrets – this is the website to visit!
While this service doesn’t usually hold as many animals as the humane shelters – they do still have some super cute small pets that are waiting for adoption.
While it breaks my heart to see that there are so many beautiful animals being given away for free, I can at least spread the word about them so that they hopefully end up loving and caring homes. When animals are being given away for free they can often end up in the wrong hands and this is the last thin any one wants to see! So, if you’re looking for a small pet and are wonderfully caring person – please have a look at these ads.
When you’re thinking about buying a small pet – you should definitely think about all of the lovely little creatures just waiting for someone as awesome and kind as yourself to go visit them at the shelter, pick them up and bring them home to a loving forever home.
