The Chinchilla Persian cat is unlike any other Persian cats because of its unique coat.
A striking frosty-white coat dipped in silver-grey gives this extraordinary cat the illusion of shimmer and glisten as if it is made of snow. Its coat is so beautiful, the Chinchilla Persian holds the title of being the very first cat to be bred especially for the colour of its coat.
To match the stunning silver white coat, the Persian has teal green eyes that shine like a precious gemstone and are outlined in black for a dramatic look. Their cute flat-nosed faces, short head, strong jaw and pert mouth give them an air of childlike wonder and mischief.
As a breed, the Chinchilla Persian first appeared on stage in competition in 1894 at London’s Crystal Palace, England and was then officially registered into the National Cat Club.

What’s it like living with a Chinchilla Persian?
The Chinchilla Persian has a long top coat and soft, fluffy undercoat which requires serious grooming every day. They are sweet, affectionate, pet-parent-doting cats with lots of personality and a laid-back demeanour. They love company but not so much children, so if you’re going to get a Chinchilla make sure you really love cats and want to spend a lot of your time with them. They do well in pairs as they are very sociable and don’t like being left alone for too long a period of time.
Some health concerns with the Chinchilla Persian
The cute flat-nosed face of the Chinchilla Persian can create health problems for this kitty. For example, they are prone to dental disease, breathing problems, runny eyes, blocked tear ducts and eye disease. Besides grooming every day, their eyes and faces need to be cleaned each day too to avoid problems with their eyes.
Genetically, they share a gene with other Persians that causes problems with the kidneys that can lead to autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease and kidney failure. Though the Chinchilla Persian cats are not as prone to this disease, it is still worth noting and adjusting their diet accordingly. Screening for this disease through DNA testing will help you determine if your Chinchilla Persian is at risk.
