Always on

A sign-in cookie so you stay logged in, and the data you give us directly — your name, your pets, your posts and comments. Without these the site can't work.

If you join or sign in with Facebook or Google, that service sends us your name, your e-mail address and your user id with them, and we keep them so we recognise you next time. We never post anywhere for you, and we never see your Facebook or Google password.

Only if you accept

The question on the sign-up form and the bar at the bottom of the site ask about these services. We may add to or replace them; this list is kept current.

• Google Analytics — which pages are visited, so we know what's useful.
• Meta (Facebook) Pixel and Conversions API — tells us when an ad led to someone joining. If you accept, our server also tells Meta that you joined or bought a tag, with your e-mail address and name in hashed form, so Facebook can count the sign-ups its ads brought; if you decline, nothing about you is sent to Meta, from the browser or from us.
• Google AdSense — the ads on our article pages, and the cookies Google uses to choose and measure them.

None of these load until you choose Accept. If you decline, they are never loaded at all. Your current choice, and the button to change it, is at the bottom of this page.

Turning tracking off applies from your next page load — scripts already running in this tab can't be taken back.

Photos

Hidden location data (GPS coordinates, camera details and timestamps) is stripped from every photo when you upload it, so sharing a picture of your pet at home doesn't share where home is.

A photo you choose to share with Petbook for our own promotion is kept privately, seen only by you and us, and used only as you agreed; you can withdraw it at any time.

E-mail we send you

Safety mail — a message from someone who found your pet, a sighting, your account and your orders — is part of the service and has no off switch; that is the promise on the collar. Everything else does: tag reminders and health reminders each have their own switch under Account → E-mail preferences, and every one of those e-mails carries a one-click unsubscribe. We don't sell or share your address.

Children

You must be 16 or older to have a Petbook account, and we don't knowingly collect anything from anyone under 16. If you're a parent and an account here belongs to your child, email hello@petbook.today and we'll delete it.

Taking a break

You can archive your account from Account at any time: your profile, pets and posts are hidden from everyone, nothing is deleted, and logging back in restores it. What we ask of you, and what we owe you on an order, is in our terms.
