Golden Cat

Cats are of many different kinds and among all the kind the golden cats are the most beautiful and attractive cats. Golden cats are linked with leopard and famous as leopard’s brother. They are wild cats and live in the forest of Africa and Asia. Golden cats have two types.

  • Asian Golden Cats
  • African Golden Cats

Asian Golden Cats:

Appearance:

The Asian golden cat is a heavyweight cat and looks similarly like a typical domestic cat. The length of this cat is approximately 66 to 105 centimeters. The weight of this cat is in-between nine to sixteen kilogrammes. Its colour is golden brown with white and black lines on his chest and looks like a leopard

Habitat and Distribution:

These cats are found in the forest of Southeast Asia territory from Nepal, Tibet India, Bhutan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, Southern China and Sumatra. These cats live in rocky, dry deciduous, subtropical, sub tropical and evergreen rainforests.

behaviors and Ecology:

These cats are solitary and territorial. Researchers show that male’s territory is about 47.7 kilometers and in rainy season increase about 15% in size. Whereas female territory is about 32.6 kilometres in size. These cats travel normally about 9 kilometer's in a day.

They can climb trees hunt birds, rodent, hares, small ungulates, reptile. These cats hunt small prey with a bite. Their vocalisations comprise of spitting, hissing, meowing, growling, purring, and gurgling.

Reproduction:

Reproduction behaviour of these cats is still not known in forest whereas in captivity it is observed that the female Asian golden cat become an adult in between 18 to 24 months. A female cat can give birth to up to three kittens at a time. The little kitten opens their eyes after 6 days of birth

African Golden Cats:

Appearance:

African golden cat is a medium-sized wild cat of almost double the size of a domestic cat. Its weight is around 24 to 30 pounds. The length of this cat can reach up to 57 inches long. These cats appear in two different colours red and grey. African golden have black spots on their body. They look a lot like leopards and are famous as leopard’s brother.

Habitat and Distribution:

African golden cats found in the moist forest zones of Africa close to rivers like alpine bamboo, cloud and mangrove forest. These are some unauthentic reports about these cats availability in savannah woodland rain forest.

Behaviour and Ecology:

These cats have tremendously secluded habits. These cats are not friendly and prefer to live alone and are usually nocturnal and crepuscular, even though they are seen to hunt during the daytime, depending on the accessibility of prey. These cats can easily climb trees but prefer hunting on the ground. These cats normally eat a rodent, tree hyrax, small monkeys, birds, duikers, small antelope and young of giant forest hog.

Reproduction:

These cats lifespan in the forest is unknown but in captivity; they live up to 12 years. Their reproduction depends on upon the captive specimen. Female golden African cat can give birth to one to two kittens after every seventy-five days.
