Top Two Phone Apps For Your Pet's Safety

From doggie first aid to finding a hotel that will let you camp with your favourite canine, there’s an app for that! It’s fun to try out new apps, especially when it means that your dog or cat can play along too. With so many more video games popping up, playtime is becoming something of a virtual reality for some pets. But the apps that we’re most concerned about are the top two for keeping your dog or cat safe and out of harm’s reach.

Dogs (and cats) are like kids – you have to watch them to keep them out of mischief. But we all know how hard that can be. Even if we puppy-proof our homes, there’s the great outdoors and all its potential hazards! Accidents can happen anywhere, so it’s a good idea to be prepared.

The American Red Cross have developed a pet first aid app that will guide you through the first scary moments of – What do I do now? This app comes equipped with a list of early warning signs and steps you can take in an emergency. First aid applications for allergic reactions, bite wounds, bloat and torsion are just a few of the treatments you can learn about and prepare yourself for in an emergency.

The app also offers lessons and quizzes to keep you in the know, as well as a directory for local vet services. This app can be used for dogs and cats, and is available for free through iTunes and Google Play.

The second app is PupTox, a pet toxicity reference for your dog or cat. This app lists 250 potentially hazardous substances and toxic foods that your dog or cat should avoid. If you discover that your pet has ingested or come into contact with one of these substances, the app also comes with a monitor to calculate the level of toxicity and what symptoms to expect, and how to treat them. This app is available for 99 cents from iTunes and Google Play.

Remember: Taking some precautions and carrying some basic first aid supplies with you whenever you’re out with your dog will save you a lot of time and trouble.
