Your Cat's Social Life

Loneliness is something that makes everyone sad and depressed. To get rid of loneliness, social life is very important. We all are social animals and being social makes us happy and have positive effects on our health. Just as human being animals also have a  social life but their social life especially cat’s social life is a bit different from our social life.

We normally consider that cats are not social animals and this misconception creates a problem in the bond between cat and his master. The domestic cats are social and being lonely and ignoring, can make them depressed. Following are some of the facts regarding cat’s social life.

Domestic Cats are social:

Unlike wild cats, the domestic cats are social. They also create a bond with the family and wants long time relationship. In the case of separation with the family, they undergo anxiety and depression. Therefore, create a bond with your cat and give her your time. Being ignored will make her behaviour change and they will do silly odd things to get your attention.

Female-Cantered Social Structure:

Unlike a human being, in wild female cats form social structure. The male cats live independently whereas researchers show that female cat form group and corporate in that group. In a case of any help, they help each other. Especially at the time of giving birth to a kitten, the other female cats act as a midwife for the cat giving birth. Similarly, any cat in the group not particularly by his or her mother will feed the newborn kitten. The female wild cats also hunt and prey with their group.Some female cats group also accepts some male cats.

Loose Social Hierarchy:

The social hierarchy of cats is not very strict as of a dog. Different areas have the different Alpha cat and in the case of death of Alpha cat, any other member of the group take the place of the alpha cat. Environment changes can also change the social structure of a cat. Cats easily adjust with the new Alpha. Entering new group member is also easy.

Territorial Behaviour:

Cats are a social animal but still they need their privacy. You cannot have 10 cats in one room. Cats want their own space. They don’t like to share their personal things like food dish, sleeping area etc. The male cats require more space than the female. Researches prove that six rooms’ home is sufficient for one male cat or two female cats not more than that.

If wild cats want their privacy and do not want other cats to enter their area, they mark their space by making scratches on a tree or by urine. These marks alert the other cats not to enter that area.

Trained Your Kitten:

Social cats comfortably and easily interact with other human beings as well as animals. You can enhance the socialism in your cat by training him or her when they are kittens. Two to seven weeks old kitten can easily be socialised.
