Dog-Training Basics

According to Juliana Weiss-Roessler, to have a well-trained dog or balance dog both are different, however if few basic essential commands are known by your dog, this would be helpful in handling the existing problem or those that can develop in near future.

To train you dog basics is not at all a hectic task. With the help of right attitude you and your dog both can enjoy training. The basic training includes your dog to know about the command such as:

  • Sit
  • Come
  • Down
  • Stay
  • Leave it

Sit:

This is the easiest dog basic commands to train, so it is better to initiate with this command.

With the help of any treat, pose your dog in a sitting position with head in upward position and his bottom in lower position. Once he gets in this position, say him “sit”, then give him his treat, and share love. Repeat this four to five times every day until the dog understands its meaning and mastered it.

Come:

Come command helps a dog in tackling from difficulty, brings the dog back if you accidently lose grip or the main door remains open by chance.

Buy a collar and put on your dog’s neck. Say him “come”, and gently pull his collar so he starts following you. When he starts, following you reward him with his treat and show him your affection. Once you dog master this command, remove the collar.

Down:

This command is a bit difficult because it is a submissive position.

Just find a treat that smells good. When your dog sniffs it, immediately put a treat on the floor so he also moves down while perusing treat. Once he lay down in the required position say him, “down”, encourage him, and let him eat the treat. Practice this several times a day as it is a bit difficult. While you are training your dog for down position if he sometimes sits in sitting position, take the dog’s treat and say him “no”.

Stay:

For training your dog for stay position be sure that he has mastered the sit command.

For this first, say your dog to “sit” and then open your hand palm and say him to “stay”. After this take a few steps back and reward him if your dog remains there.

Slowly increase your steps in backward position before his treat. Do not forget your dogs treat even if he just stays only some seconds.

Leave it:

This command assists in keeping your dog away from useless curiosity. For example, if your dog smells something interesting but maybe dangerous for him. Therefore, your objective should be to train your dog that they can get another thing better than ignoring his curiosity.

For this, take a treat in your both hands, show him the treat inside one hand, and then say him “leave it”. Allow him sniff, lick, mouth, bark and paw to get it, totally ignore him. Once he ends up trying, reward him with a treat from the second hand.

Continue practicing this every day until your dog leaves it when u say “leave it”.

These five basic commands help in making your communication with dog better and keep him safe. These commands surely value your effort and time.
