The Canadian Pet Expo Is Almost Here!

This year’s Canadian Pet Expo is just around the corner and it’s promising to be a great show as always. So save the date (March 31 - April 1) and bring your pets to the International Centre, 6900 Airport Road. All pets are welcome and kids under eight years old get in free.
What can you expect from this year’s Canadian Pet Expo?
If you’re new to the Canadian Expo, you might be overwhelmed by all the many varied events going on. So choose which ones you want to see according to the schedule and plan your day accordingly. Here are some of the events you can enjoy:

- K9 Agility Park Zone
- CPE Pop Up Pet Spa
- Rabbit & Cavy Show
- CPE Best Dressed Contest
- Canine Good Neighbour
- Flyball NAFA Event
- Canadian Cat Assoc. Show
Mystery Groom sounds like a fun event and one you can participate in for only $35 (that includes admission fee). Professional groomers from all over Eastern Canada will compete in a mystery challenge to groom dogs they’ve never met before. They will be judged on technique, knowledge, equipment handling, and overall final groom.
K9 Agility Park Zone is a great place to stop if you have a high-flyin’ breed that always energized. Under the careful guidance of the crew from K9Central, your pup will enjoy romping through weave bars, high step ramps, race lanes, jump ball tank and so many other great activities. No registration is needed for this activity, it’s free! Just show up and take part.
If your pup is pooped out from all the agility training, then why not pop into the Pop Up Pet Spa. For a reasonable price, your pup can enjoy being pampered by professional groomers from all over Eastern Canada.
The Rabbit & Cavy Show – Feel free to bring your own family rabbit and Guinea pig down to the show and be prepared to meet the largest selection of breeds in the GTA. This event takes place on March 31st – the first day of the show, so register early.
The CPE Best Dressed Contest gives you another chance to show off your pet’s best outfit and strut their stuff down the catwalk like a supermodel! Hosted by Q107’s Jennifer Valentyne and guests, your pet will need two outfits – one for Formal Wear and another for Themed Wear, and will be judged on originality, uniqueness, and overall presentation and continuity with the pet handler.
If you’re looking to enrol your dog in doggie school, consider the Canine Good Neighbour certificate. Your dog will be required to complete and pass these 12 steps:
- Accepting a Friendly Stranger
- Politely Accepts Petting
- Appearance and Grooming
- Out For a Walk
- Walking Through a Crowd
- Sit/Down On Command and Stay In Place
- Come When Called
- Praise/Interaction
- Reaction to a Passing Dog
- Reaction to Distractions
- Supervised Isolation
- Walking Through a Door/Gate
The course costs $25 and is recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club. You can register through the website.
The Flyball NAFA Event gives you the chance to watch the professionals navigate an agility course. Featuring two teams of four dogs racing down a 51 foot long course, this event is an adrenaline rush and loads of fun.
If felines are more your thing, then you won’t want to miss the Canadian Cat Assoc. Show. It’s an opportunity to see many different champion breeds up close, as well as household pets and kittens. Need we say more?
