Upcoming Cat Shows in Canada 2022

After a long pandemic lockdown, this is the year when pedigree cats hit the road again and cat breeders bring their best show cats back into the judging ring.

Happening all across Canada, there are many cat shows scheduled for 2022 and cat lovers can’t wait to see so many beautiful breeds of cats together in one place.

What To Expect At A Cat Show

There are usually one to three judging rings in a typical cat show, depending on the number of competition categories. Each ring is hosted by a different judge, who awards the best in each show of pedigree cats.

Cat breeders can win various titles, including Best of Breed and Best in Show, based on the breed standards laid out by cat registering organisations, such as The International Cat Association (TICA) and the Canadian Cat Association and Cat Fanciers Club (CCAFC).

Companion cats can also enter cat shows that award household pet cats. They are not held to breed standards, but are judged on their overall appearance and good health. For instance, the CFA awards companion cats based on their judged uniqueness, pleasing appearance, unusual markings and sweet dispositions. The only rule is that declawed cats are not eligible.

Why Go To A Cat Show?

There are so many great reasons to go to a cat show, the number one being, the spectacle itself. If you love cats, it’s a delight to see so many different breeds in person.

Another benefit of going to a cat show is meeting the breeders and possibly finding your next kitten or companion cat. During the show, breeders and judges are busy grooming and preparing for their time in the ring, but most will welcome visitors and inquiries in their downtime. You can learn about different breeds and pick up tips along the way. If you want to touch the cats or take photos, just make sure to ask them for permission first.
